As was announced at last race driver's meeting, due to the confusion on date for the last meeting, members may nominate for the 2017 Board of Directors and propose changes to the rule book for 2017. If you have someone to nominate or a rule proposal you want voted on, please message me on the Arizona Karting Association facebook page or e-mail a Board member this week. We will have ballots at the next race for you to vote if you cannot attend the meeting. These ballots will be sealed in an envelope and not be counted until the meeting. You must be a member at the present time to vote
The following people were nominated for the 2017 Board of Directors. Cameron Tyson and Daniel McClane are in 2 year positions and will continue on the 7 member board.
Mike Bonneau
Kevin Bailey
Emilio Torres
Colleen Bonneau
Joe Torres Jr.
These proposals were made for changes to the AKA operating procedures and rules
1. Divide the Intermediate Outlaw Class into 2 separate classes: all other items in rules in that section remain
1) 125 cc 2 cycle Class at 325 pound minimum weight, and
2) 250cc 4 cycle Class at 375 minimum weight.
Rationale: Some have stated that the 125 engines cannot fairly compete with 250cc engines; this will help increase kart count and keep competition on a more equal basis
2. Add a class to the rule book:
13.6 A. Unlimited All Stars (UAS) Jr. – will follow the rules and regulations in the UAS rule book.
Ages 13-17
Open Tire
Open Fuel
Any Carburetor
Wedge Body Mandatory (Safety).
15" Max height @ front wheel c/l from the ground.
24" Max height @ rear axle c/l from the ground.
Engines.
4-Stroke 14.5 cu Max.
2-Stroke any 100cc kart based piston port engine, i.e.....
Yamaha, PRD, TKM, Comer, Komet, etc.
No Check on Bore, or Stroke.
Must remain piston port engine, (no reeds).
Minimum Weight.- 320 pounds for both 2, & 4 stroke engine platforms.
Rationale this is a class that has been run at UAS nationals and regional races. Give the 13-17 yr. old another class opportunity at these events.
3. In CLASS INFORMATION ( section 13) add the following statement
Drivers aged 13 and above, with racing experience, may be allowed to compete in Adult classes with permission from the race officials based on observation of abilities and input from adults in those classes. Parents/guardians of these minors must petition the board for this permission
Rationale: there is no participation in Junior 2 classes at AKA. Outlaw karting at the Intermediate level is costly to compete in and should not be the only choice. Many other forms of racing (Minisprints, Outlaw karting have allowed drivers as young as 11 to compete in classes with more horsepower than is run in Adult karting classes. AKA has allowed this in a few cases, without any problems. This will bring rule book up to date and help to keep youth drivers in karting.
4. LO206 ENGINE CLASSES- change spec fuel to 87 octane pump fuel. The officials will designate where they will obtain the fuel for use in testing.
Rationale: This would make running the LO206 engine classes more affordable, and is more in line with engine manufacturer specs.
5. OUTLAW BEGINNER LO206 CLASS- add the following statement:
The carburetor slide will be checked and marked in pre- race tech inspection.
6. The board of directors shall CREATE A DESIGNATED WORK AREA and accompanying rules, in which certain repairs may be safely made, such as changing a tire or replacing a chain, within a certain amount of time. This should be accomplished before the 2017 racing season begins.
Again... if you have nominations or rules proposals to submit, please do so in writing this week, so I will have time to type and get the ballots copied for the next race.
note: the reason I am posting this, and not a board member, is that I was asked to take notes at the meetings this year, and to type up the ballot.
