Update – 08/22/2014
Maricopa County Parks and Recreation (MCPR) has stated that the front gate is still locked because there is still water standing on the roads. MCPR has indicated that as an organization we can open the gates to allow members in to utilize our facility; however, AKA would be responsible for any damage to the roads.
The condition of the track at this time is not great. The ground is still extremely saturated, there is water standing on the track that would need to be pumped out (we do not have the funds to rent a pump). There is a lot of cleanup that will need to be done. There is dirt/mud and debris littering the hot grid that will need to be removed, trees that will need to be cleaned up, etc.
At this time the recommendation is we will NOT be racing as MCPR has not unlocked the gate and the board will not take the responsibility of incurring cost to the club as there are no funds available.
Next race will be September 13th – Gates will open at 8:30
We will have to schedule a cleanup day, as soon as that is done, I will post it and look forward to all of you coming out to help.

I was just wondering why AKA is closed due to the (MCPR) but the paint ball field is open and so is PKRA. I received a phone call from Robert yesterday and he was going to help prep the track and I understand that he was out there to see the track and he seemed to think the track could be prepped for tonight. I was just wondering why AKA chose to not race? by my understanding there was going to be more people then last time. it seems strange the last two races were candled at the last minute.
thanks for removing me from Facebook, for posting a positive post about the first summer night race.

As someone looking forward to the event yesterday, and joining the club next season, it is very disappointing to hear the park was open and AKA was closed, from some of the posts it appears the rain was a convenient way to justify cancelation when predicted turnout was the true reason. It does not look good that I will join; rather I will reopen my track and get back to business of having fun.

Lee, don't give up on AKA yet. In a conversation I had with Oscar the practice session will continue a couple of more races, so I hope you will come back for that. These will be day races I believe so practice time after the club program should be available in abundance. Hopefully the temperature will start going down by September 13th. I do hope you reopen your track, I have been there it is a blast. Just make it a little wider.

I was not at the track, but do know that Denise and Kevin were in daily contact with the parks rep re condition of the area. Why on earth would the board choose to not race and use rain as an excuse? If turnout was the reason, they I believe that would have been stated. I too think there would have been more people there Sat. night and wanted to have a race. As of Thursday, there was still water standing in the road to the south of AKA entrance. Denise indicated in her post that AKA could have allowed people in but would be responsible if anyone decided to enter that area, or if off roaders did any damage. If PKRA was willing to take that responsibility, that is their decision. The board was asked to make a decision sooner rather than later, and it did. The pits and area around the scoring tower were muddy and there were rocks, etc. covering the grid area. By the way, there are two parts to the park according to the Flood Control district. The front area where the water park, train part and Victory Lanes is designated one type and they were open. Behind the gate is another designation, where we and PKRA are located. These were races that were added to the calendar at the request of some members, not points races, just for fun. The numbers of the first event barely covered any expenses. That is why number 2 was cancelled. Perhaps if more of you who came to just watch, not help and those who said they were coming did, we would have been able to race again. Robert and Brian, where were you? Thank you Ted for your support, and Lee I hope you will not give up your plans to race at AKA Speedway. There are many friendly, helpful people who like to come have fun. Come on out and get to know them. And, Brian, I was the one who blocked you on Facebook. Your posts were not positive, so don't pretend they were. You were commenting about someone being allowed to work on their car and returning to racing. Didn't happen. And that was not the first jab you took. I want the Facebook page to be a place where we can post pictures, share ideas, keep members and others up to date on happenings at AKA and in the racing world. If you want to be a part of that, I will unblock you. Otherwise, you can still put your negativity on here. What is the goal, success or failure of AKA?

Well start with the post. I said that we thought it was neet that the leader Lee lost his chain and pulled into the pit area put his chain on and restarted his kart and continued to race and it seemed like he still won the race. And were was I ? Watching the races in turn 4. My phone never rang asking for help for that race or the last two. Why was I not racing? Because it is summer break and my kart was and is still been taken apart because that is what happens in the off season part. Plus I had sent my motor our to get tunned up. I would have raced if u were Gona push and make motor noises.on another note I work two jobs and have been working about 14 hours a day.
And for the public record I have told every one that I will help if I can I'm just not going to do it all by myself.
And also because we are dragging out the past and misdirections the big water bill is probably because of when the main water line broke and it fludded the hole street area but I under stand that might have been forgotten .
This post is not to be taken negative just responding to questions. I would like to apologise if my post seemed negative I am sorry I was just asking for some clarity
