First I would like to thank the AKA board for allowing us to put on this exhibition practice on July 26th. So here is the deal. A $20.00 practice fee will apply to the kart and driver. Each pit crew member will be required to purchase a $5.00 pit pass. Free seating will be available in the grandstand.
This will be an AKA race night so our practice session(s) will be ran in the middle of the AKA race track and above the groove laid down by the AKA race program. The track will be damp and watered as needed to keep the dust down. This is going to be a slide it sideways type of practice. Treaded tires are recommended but not required.
This particular practice is for 4 cycle motors only, limited to 400cc bore and stroke motors. For this practice there will be NO minimum weight. I hope to see as many as 12 karts show up for this event. If you have any questions about other items please give me a call. Ted T. 602-885-6347.
Questions have come up on gearing. If you have a 10 tooth clutch driver, it will not work unless your motor turns 7900 rpm. An 11 tooth driver will work if your motor turns 7200 rpm. If you have a 12 tooth driver you shouldn't have any gearing problems. This was all calculated using a 53 tooth rear sprocket.
Another suggestion is as far as chassis preference, I believe a straight rail or asphalt chassis will work better than a dirt oval lefthander chassis for this format. Remember this practice will be a turn left than right and hang out the rear..

My motor is 216cc and 9300rpm redline, what range gear should I have on hand? I have on hand sprockets for 4.2 to 4.6 final ratio. Very excited to go Thanks for having us. lee

9300 rpm, holy smokes!! Try starting with a 14 -77 driver and gear. That should get you just above 8000 rpm. Yeah I can't wait to try our 390cc alcohol motor. 27hp off the corner.

I am unaware of the approval from the board to run this exhibition, I will look into it. With that said, if this is happening, I believe the cost of $5 for a pit pass is only for actual practice days. I believe the pit pass will still be $10 for anyone else attending regardless of whether they are there for this exhibition. Please plan on $10 pit passes for all guests coming for this exhibition. I don't see why the practice wouldn't stay the same. If anything changes I will let you all know.
Thank you, Denise

"I am unaware of the approval from the board to run this exhibition"
WOW Shocker! I just spent $100 for clutch rebuild just for this event, I felt confident as the events are scheduled on AKA home page. If it turns out that AKA is run like Big Government i.e. too many competing ideas that prevent anything good to happen, I clearly will need to take my marbles somewhere else. infighting will kill a club. With that said. I do still look forward to attending if run, and hope that you will let us run the bottom line of the track so possible new members like me can get a real sense of what AKA has to offer, what gears to stock up on and for safety give us some room away from the wall. Little cushion is good, more cushion is better.
Thank you Lee

Lee, the practice is still scheduled for 7/26. Based on last nights AKA board meeting everyone should be on the same page. Denise was going to post something soon explaining what was agreed too last night. From what I know, you will pay $20 for the practice and that will include your pit pass. Pit passes only will be $10, not $5 as previously posted. You will have a hot lap session of 5 or 6 laps. Then there will be a break time to make gear changes and other items. You will than have a 25 minute or so session for practice. If there is any time after AKA's club race, then you will be able to get on the track again up until 10pm. You will be able to run the entire width of the track from bottom to top. Ted T

Ted thanks for the quick clarification, there for a moment I thought Christmas was canceled. Naughty list for you!!!!!!!!!!!! he he he. Short bio: I love racing and have competed in R/C Pylon racing for past 20 years “Model airplanes” and love hauling the mail 220 MPH and they had to make a rule for pilots like us few to keep above 15 feet, I tend to migrate to 5 feet AGL. Below 5 and you are in the ground effect and its worth 5+ MPH or so especially helpful upwind, I have been karting for a few years now and get the same excitement as I do with the planes. My experience is at low key short tracks, my back yard track included, some of you may have attended Cotton Ln raceway, and have been having a ball at it, 20 or so friends all slinging the dirt to determine order of bragging rights. I got word we might have an opportunity to go to a very nice facility in AKA, and so armed with mostly the correct equipment I went to the last practice session and definitely got that wide eyed look of a child that made the “Nice list” on Christmas. And now I have a chance to put the rubber down at the sweet AKA track, A huge THANK YOU to those who made it happen. I am very much excited to meet everyone who attends, feel free to introduce yourself if I don’t get to you first. My current # is 18.

I had a ball last night, love the fact my wrist did not hurt near as bad as the bull rings I am familiar with and no jumps on the front stretch either, real white knucklers. I’m going to make a few adjustments when I put the kart back together after thorough cleaning, lube and inspection. I believe I need a bit more rotation at apex and that will require me to gear up a tad. 13 flat is achievable maybe better. I want to thank everyone for your efforts GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!! Track is super smooth fast and a total blast. Dogs are hot and pop is super cold just like I like it. I encourage a visit to the snack bar it helps keep the track wet and the lights on I’m sure.
Thanks again Lee
