Don't mean to be speaking for the board, but I know Denise has been real busy. I was told yesterday that this Sat. 8/2 has been cancelled. There were just not enough full paying participants to be able to afford to race. Racing is still on for 8/23. I have heard more people were planning on coming then. We had 4 KT 100's and 4 Outlaw kaged karts, plus the karts that were there for practice. I know a couple of the 2 cycle guys were planning on coming but had family commitments. Several members chose to come and just watch. With the Outlaw karts going to a show in Prescott this weekend, they will not be at AKA on 8/2. So..... we will try again on August 23. Thanks to those who did come out, and those who came to help out.

Oscar, I have already called all the reps I have for the 4 cycle modifieds and let them know that August 2nd has been cancelled. I also let them know that August 23rd on still on for sure. I expect about 15 to 20 karts on Aug. 23rd for the 4 cycle limited modified practice. Also, I hope that everyone starts calling this class 4 cycle limited modifieds. From the speed these guys were going Saturday night you could see they are not YARD KARTS. Most everyone has quite a few $$$$ invested in these karts and motors as you have seen they ain't SLOW. Also quite a few of these karts would pass a safety pre tech.

Ted, I asked the group what they wanted to be called so I could put it on the grid board as to when their class was up. They responded " Back Yard Karts" so that's what I called them. I don't think anyone meant that would be slow, if speed is the indication of racing quality. If they start racing with us on a regular basis, AKA can form a class for them and give it a Class name, similar to what was done with UAS or other classes in the past. I have no doubt that something can we worked out so far as tech and safety if they want to run regularly with AKA. I for one enjoyed watching them. I do however feel that if someone is going to use our track, they should become part of the club and pay the same fees that members do. I hope they will return on 8/23 and have a plan to become part of AKA when we go back to our schedule in Sept. If not, I feel they should practice on our practice days.
Oscar, I think it would be great if you held a practice session for these and any karters who might want to come out. You are a board member and I am sure no one would be against your volunteering to do that. So, are you saying you will hold a practice on August 9th?
For those of you who do or cannot attend meetings, these 3 Summer races came about at the request of a few members who said they wanted to race then. The board then looked at the schedule of PKRA, Prescott and chose 3 days based on the wishes of those making the request for races. At least 5 more that usually race said they would participate. The board knew that the Outlaw Kaged Karts would be going to Prescott on 8/2, but had assurance that enough other classes be there. Well, last weekend 7/26. there were a total of 8 karts, 4 adult, 4 juniors that paid for racing. The others paid practice fees. Apparently those who said they would come, were not able to for some reason. We had several members who came and just watched, but that does not generate income. Any member of this club can find out how much the bills are and how much income we have, all you have to do is ask. The decision to cancel this weekend 8/2 was made by the board members who actually work at each race. I posted on facebook and here at their request. Since I work at every race, I was asked my opinion and concurred.
I am sorry you are upset Oscar, but everyone else involved seems ok with this.

Was not going to post anything but since you put me out there.....I am not upset Caroline, just concerned why certain board members are kept out of the loop? I meet and welcomed each and every driver of "Yard Karts", bunch of nice guys and many have much more experience racing than a lot of us. Ted is doing a great job of leading these racers to hopefuuly soon become part of AKA. They could very well be the future of AKA. It seems who ever made the decision to cancel this weeks races should of considered allowing these Karters to practice this week end. I have talked to Ted and it was decided since he had found the cancellation on facebook and notified the drivers, it would be better to not hold any events this week end. And yes Caroline I was ready to help out to make this happen. Next time I hope we can consider using our website page to make such important announcements and that ALL board members are made aware of important changes..

Does this mean you will hold a practice next Sat. the 9th? I also think the new drivers that came are nice guys and welcome them to the club. But we cannot afford to run this weekend with the few members that supported it. AKA cannot go further into the hole moneywise. Why does something so simple become such a crisis? I believe they all said they would return on the 23rd, when we also expect several others to come. I appreciate your being here to help also. Thank you. I do agree with you that our web page needs to be more effective, but one person cannot do it all.

Correct, not one person can do it all nor should one person on the board be making some of these decision alone. Carolyn I strongly recommend YOU run for a board position next term based on your input and the time you spend translating on this website what some other board members are thinking. Become a board member and represent your own opinion. I can tell you right now my hat will be in the ring when board member elections are upon us.

As discussed with Oscar, No practice this weekend will be supported by the 4 cycle limited modifieds because of the Facebook cancellation notice. Thanks and please vote for me next election for an AKA board position. VOTE Ted Tucholski......Lets get AKA running stronger.

Ted, I do state my opinions and try to relate accurately what is told to me. I may post some answers to questions, because I know Denise and Kevin have full time jobs and I am retired. I do not play favorites, and want things to be fair for all. I feel that one does not have to be on the board to work to make improvements to the club. Any member can attend meetings and step up and do things. One problem has been that some people are only willing to do something, or serve on the board, if it benefits them in some way or another. Or if things don't go exactly as they would want, just quit and spend the rest of the time being negative about everything. We have a great group of people who want to come out, compete and have fun. That is what it is all about. But, it takes a group of people willing to actually work, not just talk about what needs, to be done to put on the races or practices and keep the track going. I can tell you right now, if asked, who would be willing to do this, and it is not many. I do hope if you want to be on, and are elected to the board, that you will be one that will be willing to actually work.
By the way, I only posted on facebook and here what I was told- that the RACING on 8/2 was cancelled. The decision was made by those who would actually be working at the event, based on the fact that we did not make enough to cover expenses and were not going to have as many participants on 8/2. A simple phone call to Kevin or Denise would have explained that. Hope to see many of you on the 23rd.

Carolyn, just for the record I support the cancellation of Aug 2nd race for the reasons you stated. I just didn't understand why it was posted on Facebook first and 36 hours earlier, instead of getting posted on the AKA website. And after I found out about the cancellation I called Kevin but got no answer. I still think you should run for the AKA board though.

Thank you Ted. I knew you weren't upset about the cancellation. I just reiterated the reasons for those who might not understand, and Oscar seemed upset. I am not sure why it was not on the web site at the same time. I do know that there is discussion about how the website needs someone who has more time and can update the entire site to make it what it needs to be. As it is now, the webmaster only has access when he is at work and Denise has all the responsibility of getting info out. This is not an ideal situation. If anyone is interested in this totally volunteer position, please contact Kevin or Denise. I just put it on Facebook as I was asked. Again, I seem to have more free time most days. Denise and Kevin have full time jobs. Again, thanks. I am looking forward to the 23rd, I think we will have a better turn out. Still need some volunteers though.
